Primian Leader Concept

I'm working on a sci-fi project and need to design some alien characters. This is an ape-like character I've drawn several times, each time changing a few details. This is my favorite version so far. His race is called "Primian" (like Primate). He does not have a name yet but will act as a bad guy in the story.
- Why is he naked? Well, I like to design my characters from head to toe, and decide on tattoos, scars, etc., and if they're an alien they might have anatomy slightly different than humans. Previously, I've designed armor for him, but I didn't like the design. So, I'll design him new armor later, after I come up with something aesthetically pleasing.
- When it comes to designing this guy's fur, I still don't know the best technique. Drawing the hairs like this takes kind of a while, but it looks decent so maybe it's worth it. I'll have to keep experimenting.
- I still don't know what to do with my backgrounds so for now I'll keep putting a colored rectangle, just to help break the character away from the white page.
- I think my flats actually look better than my shaded here. Shading is tricky for me, need more practice.
